Taking care of one’s health is almost always at the top of everyone’s New Years resolutions list. Whether it be to spend more time in the gym or to diet more effectively in 2018 – it’s apparent that health matters to many. But where does your oral health fit into your 2018 goals? Here at Dental Center of Mesa, we’ve got a few resolution suggestions for you:
Make Healthier Food & Drink Choices
2018 is your year to care about making healthier choices. Instead of the soda you drink every day at lunch, replacing it with a green tea or a flavored water would not only benefit your oral health, but your overall health as well. This ‘swapping’ idea can also apply to your food choices. If you have a sweet tooth like so many of us out there, replacing sugary candy that creates acid that decays the enamel of your teeth. Swapping candy for fresh fruit not only protects your teeth, but can end up whitening your smile as well. Strawberries are known to naturally whiten your teeth, making your smile not only healthier, but brighter as well.
Stop Smoking / Chewing Tobacco
It’s no secret that tobacco products and smoking can lead to oral cancer. Not only does smoking and chewing tobacco products put your life at risk of many ailments that can kill you, it also makes your breath smell, lessens saliva production (needed to keep teeth and gums healthy), and rots your teeth. If you smoke, now is the time to think about quitting for the sake of your oral heath, and your life.
Brush and Floss Regularly
This may seem trivial, but improving your brushing & flossing habits in the New year is important. Making sure you’re brushing twice a day for 2 minutes each time, and that you floss daily as well is pertinent to keeping now only a beautiful smile, but a healthy one as well.
See The Dentist
Making sure that you see your dentist through regular check ups is the most important part of maintaining great oral heath. Your dentist will be able to tell you what you’re doing well in terms of your dental care, and what you might need to work on / if there is anything wrong. Making sure you see your dentist is not only preventative, but imperative to a great and healthy mouth.
